Privacy Policy

The Prevention Information Center (PIC) makes every effort to protect the privacy of library users.

Type of Information Collected

The PIC does not collect any "personally identifiable information" about individuals-such as names and postal or e-mail addresses-except when such information is voluntarily submitted by the user.

The PIC will only collect the information needed to contact clients, such as mailing address, email address, phone number, etc., in order to ensure the proper notification, lending, and return of library materials and the collection of fines. Records will be retained for the shortest length of time necessary to facilitate library operations.
Individuals may choose to submit their names, email addresses, postal addresses or telephone numbers in order to receive library services, such as registering for library cards, ordering materials, receiving personal responses to questions, receiving Library promotional materials, or being added to specific mailing lists.

In common with many Websites, the PIC online catalog automatically logs certain "non-personally identifiable" information about visits to our Website. This information is used to summarize data from those visits. The data summaries do not identify individual visitors by name.

Server logs and statistical summaries are reviewed to learn how individual electronic services are used in order to improve Web site content and PIC services. Examples of statistics gathered include:

PIC Library Catalog System:

  • Patron log-in totals (patron names are not collected)
  • Number of hold requests placed (patron names are not included)
  • Number of renewals (patron names are not included)
  • Search types (keyword, browse, etc.)
