PIC provides access to several free and subscription-only (for PIC library card holders) sources for magazines and journal articles. This page includes help on the following:
- To find articles on a topic
- To find articles when you have a citation
- Free full text sources
- Local public, school, college, or hospital library databases
To find articles on a topic
- Indexes and databases will help you determine whether an article exists on your topic.
- Not all databases contain full text sources.
- Some databases contain abstracts only.
- Some databases contain only citations to help you identify the existence of literature in your topic area of choice., which will provide you with enough information to help locate the article in its entirety.
- Though the database you are searching may not provide full text online, it may be possible to obtain full text in other databases.
- Contact the PICstaff for more assistance.

Directions for Online Access
- Click here or visit http://preventioncolorado.org/databases/
- Databases and their descriptions are listed by subject. You can also view all databases alphabetically.
- Select a databases. Some (with the
image ) require you to have a PIC library card.
- Enter the barcode from the back of your library card or your 6 letter patron ID.
- If the database description has a
or icon you can click on the image for help or more information about that particular resource.

Free Full Text Sources
There are several excellent sources for locating free journal articles related to substance abuse and health education on the Internet. Click here to see a partial list of options for free resources.
Local Public, School, College, or Hospital Library Databases
The majority of libraries provide access to electronic resources (such as article databases). Some will provide access to cardholders via the Internet.
Check your local libraries for policies relating to your use of their resources. Most libraries allow members of the public to use the resources on site.
